The Valletta Design Cluster is a public organisation established to foster design practice through entrepreneurship with the aim of contributing towards employment and growth in Malta’s creative economy. The initiative falls under the Culture Directorate, and is also responsible for the conversion and rehabilitation of the Old Abattoir building in Valletta into a design support and promotion centre. The strategic objectives of the Cluster, which since 2016 is also a member of the Bureau of European Design Associations, is to increase awareness about design, complement existing initiatives in design education, support start-ups and existing enterprises in the design sector, and promote Malta-based design practices internationally.
